Kamineni Hospitals launches free hematology camp to raise awareness on Thalassemia in children

Hyderabad, May 21 (UNI) Kamineni Hospitals, Hyderabad, has launched a free haematology camp to raise awareness about Thalassemia and offer early diagnostic testing for children.
The camp, running daily from 0900 AM to 1600 hours, aims to educate parents about the risks of Thalassemia and facilitate early detection through specialized tests conducted by pediatricians, hematologists, and genetic specialists.
Thalassemia is a serious inherited blood disorder. If either parent is a carrier of Thalassemia Minor, there is a significant risk that their children may inherit Thalassemia Major, a life-threatening condition if left untreated. However, timely diagnosis and consistent treatment through blood transfusions and medications can help manage the disease effectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr S Narasimha Rao, Head of Pediatrics and Senior Consultant Pediatrician, said, “If children frequently appear tired or weak, have pale or yellowish skin, experience delayed growth, enlarged abdomen, abnormal facial bone structure, recurring fevers or infections, or dark-colored urine, these may be signs of Thalassemia. Immediate medical evaluation is essential. Early diagnosis can save lives.”
The event also saw the participation of key medical professionals, including Consultant Pediatrician Dr Kanchan S Channawar; Consultant Medical Oncologists Dr S Jayanti and Dr M. Srinivas; Head of Genetics and Molecular Medicine Dr Annie Q Hasan; Genetics Counsellor Dr Sreelatha Komandur; Head of Immunohematology and Transfusion Medicine Dr N Vivekananda; and Consultant Dr. Anne Puneet Babu.
They are conducting free haemoglobin and hemoglobinopathy screenings (HPLC tests) as part of the camp.
Parents interested in availing the free tests can contact 8985450534 for more details and registration.
