Rain boosts inflows into three Karnataka reservoirs, Almatti gets none

Bengaluru, Oct 25 (UNI) Rainfall has boosted inflows into three key reservoirs in Karnataka's Cauvery basin, with KRS, Kabini and Harangi recording fresh inflows, while Almatti in Vijayapura district received none, highlighting the uneven water situation across the state.
The Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) reservoir in Mandya district recorded an inflow of 9,457 cusecs on Saturday, with the water level standing at 102.98 feet against its full reservoir level of 124.80 feet. The reservoir's storage stood at 25.235 TMC, while 1,589 cusecs was being released.
Kabini in Mysuru district recorded the highest inflow among the three reservoirs at 10,477 cusecs, supported by 55 mm of rainfall in its catchment area. Its water level stood at 71.61 feet against the maximum of 84 feet, with storage at 12.48 TMC. The reservoir was releasing 500 cusecs.
Harangi reservoir near Kushalnagar in Kodagu district recorded an inflow of 2,812 cusecs following rainfall in its catchment. Its water level stood at 2,846.45 feet against the reported maximum of 2,859 feet.
In contrast, Almatti reservoir, also known as Lal Bahadur Shastri Sagar, recorded no inflow. Located in Nidagundi taluk of Vijayapura district, the reservoir stood at 516.23 metres against its full reservoir level of 519.60 metres, with an outflow of 7,743 cusecs.
The Tungabhadra reservoir recorded a water level of 1,614.548 feet against its maximum level of 1,633 feet, with storage at 47.357 TMC. Its outflow stood at 11,265 cusecs into the river and canals.
The fresh inflows into KRS, Kabini and Harangi offer some relief for water management, particularly for drinking water supply and agricultural needs in the regions served by these reservoirs. However, the absence of inflow into Almatti underscores the differing conditions across Karnataka's river basins.
The overall water availability will depend on further rainfall in the respective catchment areas, existing storage levels and the volume of water released for downstream requirements.
