Ktk: Protesting farmer leader blocks CM's convoy, Siddaramaiah promises to allay grievances

Davangere, June 16 (UNI) A tense moment unfolded during Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's visit to Davangere district on Monday, when farmer leader Ballur Ravikumar lay down before the VIP convoy, accusing the police of manhandling farmers, prompting the CM to hold impromptu discussions with the protestors and promise appropriate action.
The incident occurred near a tourist temple on the Davangere highway, where Ravikumar had reached to submit a plea concerning the silting and filling issues of a local lake. However, he was allegedly stopped by the police and reportedly pushed aside. Ravikumar claimed he was also kicked by a member of the security team.
In a striking act of defiance, Ravikumar lay down in front of the CM’s convoy, obstructing the vehicle and vocally condemning the police’s conduct. "The police are behaving inhumanely. The concerns of farmers are being taken lightly," he shouted, drawing immediate attention to the scene.
In response, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah halted his vehicle, invited the aggrieved farmer leaders for a discussion, and assured them that their grievances would be addressed. He also reportedly promised to initiate appropriate action against any police personnel found guilty of misconduct.
Following the meeting, a group of farmers continued the protest, chanting slogans against the police and demanding justice. "This kind of behaviour is unacceptable. We will not remain silent until justice is done," Ravikumar told reporters. UNI BDN SSP
