Karnataka reservoir level up after rains

Shivamogga, June 17 (UNI) The Linganamakki reservoir in Sagar taluk of Shivamogga district witnessed a sharp rise in water levels following heavy rains across the Malnad region of Karnataka over the past week.
According to officials, the water level in the reservoir stood at 1,769.7 feet as of 8 am on June 17, marking an increase of over 3.3 feet in just 24 hours. The storage rose by nearly 4 TMC, from 35.01 TMC (23.08%) on June 16 to 39.15 TMC (25.82%) the following day.
The reservoir, with a full level of 1,819 feet and a total storage capacity of 151.64 TMC, registered an inflow of 50,576 cusecs on Tuesday morning. The Linganamakki dam is primarily used for power generation and plays a crucial role in hydel energy supply for the state.
The sharp rise in the water level is attributed to widespread and continuous rain across the Malnad belt. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru, had issued an orange alert for several districts, including Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, and Shivamogga.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as inflows into other major reservoirs are also on the rise. Several precautionary measures have been initiated in low-lying and flood-prone areas across coastal and hilly districts.
