Veeramani POCSO case : Chargesheet in first FIR in 3 weeks, SIT tells Madras HC

Chennai, Oct 26 (UNI) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the multiple POCSO cases against granite baron R.Veeramani, on Monday informed the Madras High Court that the chargesheet in the first FIR would be filed in the next three weeks.
When the writ petitions filed by journo R.Varaahi and advocate M.L.Ravi of Desiya Makkal Sakthi Katchi, seeking to transfer the probe into the sexual assault cases against the tainted bizman to the CBI, came up for hearing before Justice V.Lakshminarayanan, State Public Prosecutor (SPP) R.John Sathyan said the SIT will file the charge sheet soon in the first case case booked against the Gem Granites owner and others.
Whe the Judge enquired about the progress of the investigation by the SIT, the SPP said the probe was continuing. The SIT has been issuing press releases and also submitted that it would file a status report before the court on the progress made. He also said the chargesheet in the first case was almost ready and would be filed within 3 weeks.
Meanwhile, Varaaki filed an additional affidavit in the case claiming that immediately prior to the earlier Action drop Report against Veeramani, he had transacted a huge value of money, around Rs. 147 crore. Varaaki also alleged that former Chennai City Police Commission Arun had utilised some of these illegal gratifications for purchasing gold valued at approximately Rs 24 crore. He submitted that the circumstances surrounding the transfer of funds, the identities of the persons who arranged and facilitated the transactions, the source of the funds utilised for gold purchase, the mode of payment and the ultimate beneficial ownership of the assets acquired warrant a thorough and independent investigation.
The court perused the status report filed by the SIT and observed that the police had already taken note of the fact and has been conducting investigations. After considering the status report and the submissions made by the SPP, the Judge adjourned the next hearing to November 12.
In the first plea, Varaahi contended that high-ranking officials were involved in the case and they attempted to shield the accused in the case and evade legal action. He also raised apprehensions that the SIT would not carry the investigation independently and effectively, necessitating a probe by an independent agency. The court had however refused to order a CBI probe, on the ground that the SIT formed by the TN Government should be given a breathing time to collect all evidence in connection with the case. The court had orally remarked that investigation takes time, especially in a case like this and the police did not have a magic wand or crystal ball to collect all the evidence at once.
Veeramani was arrested after the POCSO court rejected the closure report and ordered the police to probe the matter based on the FIR registered in October 2025. Cases were registered against Veeramani and others under Secs 7,8,15(1), and 21(1) of the POCSO Act, Sections 354(A), 354(C), 201, and 120(B) of IPC and Sections 66(E), and 67(B) of the IT Act.
A total of eight POCSO cases were registered against Veeramani so far. He was also booked for abetting the suicide of a minor girl (also POCSO charges invoked) who took the extreme step after being sexually assaulted by him, taking the total cases to nine.
So far eight people were arrested in connection with the POCSO cases registered against Veeramani. The probe by the CCB police unravelled several startling revelations including huge money trial running to crores of rupees, besides more than 20 kg of gold was transferred between Veeramani and a suspected mediator in November 2024 when the first complaint was filed, and in early this year (2026) when the closure report was filed. Since the probe also unearthed the involvement of top police officials and also some affluent and influential persons, the Tamil Nadu Government constituted an all-women Special Investigation Team (SIT) which was probing the case in detail.
Apart from unravelling huge sums of money trail, running to more than Rs 50 crores allegedly to shield the industrialist, the investigation has also raised questions about the role of top police officers who handled the earlier complaint. A businessman Prakash Kannaiah, who
is the son of Southern Railway Mazdoor union (SRMU) leader N.Kannaiahwas was said to have acted as the conduit in settling the financial deals. Though the police have issued summons against him, his anticipatory bail apprehending arrest in the case, was dismissed by the POCSO Court on October 16 and he was facing imminent arrest.
Since he was said to be staying in the UK, Police are now planning to seek Interpol assistance by issuing a Blue Corner notice for his repatriation.
Three days back, Archana Veeramani, daughter of the bizman, was deboarded from a Singapore-bound aircraft and detained at the Chennai airport by the police and questioned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the POCSO cases, in connection with
the large scale financial transactions, running to several crores, that took place to shield Veeramani from the case.
