Kerala: Nineteen stray attack cases reported in Kannur on 2nd day

Kannur, June 18 (UNI) The attacks by stray dogs continued in town for second day on Wednesday when 19 cases of dog bites were reported, taking total number of cases within two days to 75.
On Tuesday, 56 cases were reported.
All the attacks took place in the State Bank premises, railway station road and the new bus stand at Thavakkara.
On Wednesday, six people were bitten by dogs between 6 am an 8 am and all those bitten by the strays sought medical treatment at the district hospital.
Yesterday, one dog was found dead at Thavakkara near the new bus stand, while two more dogs were found dead today at various places in the town.
The stray dog catchers attached to Animal Birth Control (ABC) unit have caught five strays from nearby the district hospital in the morning. The trace operation was going on, sources said.
Kannur Mayor Muslih Madathil and councillors visited the district hospital to enquire about the injured persons.
The Mayor said that a special team has been appointed to catch strays and alleged that the recent closure of the district panchayat-controlled ABC centres is the reason for increase in the number of stray dogs in Kannur town.
Meanwhile, the CPI(M) led opposition councillors protested in the Corporation council meeting in the morning, alleging that the Corporation has failed to control stray dogs in town and later, they boycotted the council meeting.
