AP Counter Intelligence police bust espionage racket

Vijayawada, Oct 6 (UNI) The Counter Intelligence Cell of Andhra Pradesh police has busted an espionage with the arrest of a duo, suspected transmitting sensitive information relatign to defence establishments to their Pakistani operative.
While Annam Sai Varaprasad, a civilian contract driver engaged for Naval officers, was arrested Visakhapatnam, Pradeep Mukharjee, a Naval employee of Visakhapatnam Naval base, was arrested at Coimbatore, TamilNadu. Both have been remanded in custody. Further investigation is on for the remaining suspects, Police said on Tuesday.
The arrest followed credible information about the suspects allegedly maintaining direct contact withPakistan Intelligence Operatives (PIOs) and sharing sensitive/classified information relating to defence establishments and strategic locations in Visakhapatnam and other parts of the country through encrypted communication channels.
A case was registered at the Counter Intelligence Police Station, Vijayawada, on Friday under various sections of the BNS, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and OfficialSecrets Act.
As part of the continuing investigation, on Thursday, sleuths of the Counter Intelligence Cell conducted a coordinated operation, designated 'Operation Firewall', on an alleged espionage module comprising 18 suspects, including 13 Naval personnel. Accordingly, 12 AP CI Cell teams were deployed across 10 States/UTs - Andhra Pradesh, Kerala,Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Goa, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh and Bihar.
In coordination with the concerned State ATSs, Naval Officials and Local Police, the AP CI Cell investigation teams examined the complicity of the above 18 suspects and also seized electronic gadgets from them.
Whiloe Varaprasad is accused of sharing sensitive/classified information relating to Naval/Defence establishments with a Pakistan-based intelligence operative and receiving amounts for this, Mukharjee is charged with sharing an OTP for activation of a WhatsApp accountby a PIO, communicating with PIOs, and sharing sensitive information
