Palm Oil farmers at risk due to import duty cut: Kodanda Reddy

Hyderabad, May 31 (UNI) Telangana Farmers Commission Chairman Kodanda Reddy has raised strong objections to the Central Government's recent decision to reduce import duties on palm oil, warning that it will severely affect palm oil farmers in the state.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Kodanda Reddy said the move is ill-timed and counterproductive, particularly when the Telangana government under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is actively promoting palm oil cultivation through a host of incentives and subsidies.
“The Revanth Reddy government has been encouraging palm oil cultivation with attractive support schemes, and farmers have begun to show keen interest. At such a critical juncture, the Centre’s sudden decision to lower import duties is like a bolt from the blue for palm oil farmers,” Kodanda Reddy said.
