Special Gram Sabhas held across Telangana on Gandhi Jayanti

Hyderabad, Oct 2 (UNI) Special Gram Sabhas were held in all Gram Panchayats across Telangana today to mark Gandhi Jayanti and promote public participation in village development.
Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's concept of Gram Swaraj, the meetings focused on identifying village needs, available resources and priorities for preparing comprehensive Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDPs). Colourful muggus (rangoli) were used to create village maps highlighting roads, drinking water sources, schools, Anganwadi centres, sanitation, irrigation and other infrastructure.
Villagers discussed issues including drinking water, sanitation, roads, drainage, rainwater harvesting, employment, livelihoods, women's self-help groups and agriculture. Officials said available funds and schemes of various departments would be coordinated to take up priority works.
Telangana Panchayat Raj, Women and Child Welfare Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka directed officials to ensure that resolutions and suggestions made in the Gram Sabhas were implemented systematically and not confined to paper. She said the identified needs should be incorporated into GPDPs and priority works taken up by effectively utilising government schemes and available funds.
She stressed transparency and accountability in implementing Gram Sabha decisions and called upon officials and public representatives to work together to ensure that village development plans based on public participation and local resources lead to comprehensive development.
MLAs, senior officials, district officials, public representatives, Panchayat secretaries and departmental officials participated in the Gram Sabhas and gathered feedback from villagers, according to an official statement.
