Cop risks life by clinging on to smugglers’ car roof railings in Ganja case, invited and honoured by Vijay

Chennai, Sep 29 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay on Tuesday invited and honoured Coimbatore district head constable Velmurugan, who risked his life to help apprehend gutka smugglers by clinging on to the railings of a car driven at more than 100 km speed for over 40 kms, and ensuring their arrest.
The daring act went viral in the social media and won appreciation from the police, public, media and the political parties, who congratulted him.
Police were conducting vehicle checks in the Vilankurichi area when a car allegedly failed to stop. Head constable Velmurugan of Kovilpalayam police station climbed onto the roof of the moving car. Despite noticing the policeman on the roof, the smugglers drove from Vilankurichi towards Avinashi for around 40 km. A special police team tailed the car and with the assistance of Avinashi police intercepted the vehicle and seized around 233 kg of gutka.
