Playback singer Krishnaraj passes away

Chennai, Oct 22 (UNI) Playback singer R. Krishnaraj, whose distinctive voice enriched several Tamil film songs, died on Thursday morning at the age of 75.
His death comes a few days after his guru Thenisai Thendral Deva's death.
A member of the Film Musicians’ Union, he was the most sought after singer by late music composer Deva and had sung several memorable numbers during the 1990s.
Krishnaraj came to prominence with the fast beat "Vellarikka Pinju Vellarikka" song in the film Kadhal Kottai (1996). Among his other notable songs were "Thanjavooru Mannu Eduthu" from Porkkaalam (1997), for which he received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Playback Singer, "Nalu Vaartha" from Periya Gounder Ponnu, and several songs that showcased his versatility.
His association with Deva produced songs that remain familiar to Tamil film music lovers. Thanjavooru Mannu Eduthu, in particular, holds a special place in his career. The song was played at the funeral of Deva last week, lending an emotional resonance to the musical association between the composer and the singer.
Krishnaraj was recognised for his contribution to film music and was also known for singing devotional songs. The Film Musicians’ union expressed its condolences to his family, relatives and friends. His death marks the loss of a singer whose voice became part of the soundtrack of an era in Tamil cinema.
