CM Vijay pays tribute at Police memorial, hikes daily expenditure fund for police station, allots Rs 71 cr

Chennai, Oct 21 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Wednesday paid tribute to police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty by laying a wreath at the Police Memorial at the DGP Office complex in the city, and later hiked the daily expenditure fund allocation to all police stations, allotting a total of Rs 71 crores per annum, in a bid to reduce their dependance on unofficial sources for funds.
On the occasion of police commemoeration day, he also praised the dedication, courage and commitment of the police force in maintaining law and order and protecting the public.
The Chief Minister visited the Police Memorial and placed a wreath in honour of the personnel who lost their lives while discharging their duties, inspected a guard of honour and distributed insurance assistance to the families of police personnel totalling Rs six crores. The memorial stands as a tribute to police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the people and the State.
Vijay lauded the police for their role in safeguarding public safety, preventing crime and responding to challenging situations. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by personnel and their families and stressed the importance of their service to society.
Meanwhile, in a bid to ensure transparency and eliminate corruption, Vijay sanctioned Rs 71.01 crore per annum to enhance the daily expenditure funds provided to police stations across the State. The move is aimed at meeting routine administrative and operational expenses of police stations.
Under the revised allocation, the monthly miscellaneous expenditure fund for police stations has been increased substantially. Stations
in the first category will receive Rs 30,000 a month, against the existing Rs 3,750. Those in the second category will get Rs 40,000, up from Rs 6,000, while stations in the third category will receive Rs 50,000, as against Rs 8,250, an official release said.
The police stations have been classified into three categories based on the number of criminal cases handled by them. The enhanced funds are intended to meet routine expenses arising from increasing administrative and operational requirements.
The government said the additional allocation would ease difficulties faced by police stations in meeting day-to-day expenses and reduce their reliance on unofficial sources for such expenditure.
The hike follows an announcement made by the Chief Minister in his reply to the debate on demand for grants in the State Assembly.
A government order was also issued sanctioning Rs 71.15 crore lakh for this purpose.
The government said the measure forms part of its efforts to ensure transparent administration, strengthen police functioning and prevent corrupt practices in government offices.
