Priyanka Gandhi slams Election Commission, demands stripping of safeguards shielding CEC

Kozhikode, Sep 26 (UNI) Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, demanding his immediate resignation over alleged structural manipulation of the democratic process.

Speaking to reporters in her Wayanad constituency, Priyanka accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of orchestrating massive voter deletions through its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
She alleged that approximately 13 crore voters were systematically removed from the voter lists, a move she termed a direct assault on the nation's democracy.
"Anyone who plays around with the democratic process of our elections is committing treason against this nation," Priyanka stated.

She further said that "What is being done by the Commission is completely illegal and unconstitutional. This poses a serious threat to the country and the democratic system."
She claimed that the Election Commission is receiving huge support from the BJP and said that those responsible for the irregularities should be brought to justice.
For this, Priyanka said that the legal protections currently available to the Election Commission need to be reviewed.
