BJP defends SIR, says Congress spreading misinformation: Ramchander Rao

Hyderabad, Sep 29 (UNI) Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Tuesday accused the Congress and its allies of spreading misinformation about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and creating an impression of differences within the Election Commission of India.
Addressing the media at the BJP state office, Rao said the objective of SIR was to ensure accurate electoral rolls and remove ineligible or duplicate entries while protecting the rights of genuine voters. He urged the public not to believe what he described as “false propaganda” against the exercise.
His remarks came after the Election Commission’s September 26 meeting, at which Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi said key SIR decisions had been approved unanimously. The Commission also clarified that issues raised in an internal communication were not related to a policy disagreement.
