Telangana: Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy demands removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar

Hyderabad, Sep 25 (UNI) Bhongir Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday demanded the immediate removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that the Election Commission's functioning and the electoral roll revision process were undermining voters' rights.
In a video statement, Reddy alleged that the BJP-led government had deliberately changed the process for appointing Election Commissioners by replacing the Chief Justice of India on the selection panel with a union Cabinet Minister. The 2023 law does make the selection committee consist of the Prime Minister, a union Cabinet Minister nominated by the Prime Minister and the Leader of Opposition; the Supreme Court is currently examining challenges to the law after a split verdict.
He alleged that voters were being deleted from electoral rolls without adequate opportunity for correction and claimed that around 13 crore votes had been deleted across the country.
He also demanded an investigation into recent elections, citing allegations concerning CCTV footage from the Haryana polls and alleged irregularities in the Mahadevapura constituency in Karnataka.
Reddy further alleged that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process was being used to undermine voting rights and urged the Supreme Court to intervene.
His remarks come amid an ongoing political dispute over the SIR exercise and reported differences within the Election Commission, while the poll panel has maintained that its decisions were taken unanimously.
He alleged that the BJP was seeking to retain power indefinitely and accused it of weakening the country's secular and democratic institutions.
Reddy demanded a comprehensive investigation into the allegations and called for the immediate removal of Gyanesh Kumar from the post of CEC.
