Bandi Sanjay attacks Congress over SIR criticism, defends Election Commission

Hyderabad, Sep 29 (UNI) union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday criticised the Congress for targeting the Election Commission and opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the party was questioning the process due to its electoral setbacks.
In a statement, while reacting to the Congress Working Committee’s demand for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resignation, Bandi Sanjay said there was no basis for such a demand and pointed to the BJP-led government’s electoral mandate. He also criticised comparisons between the Modi government and British rule, calling them an affront to India’s democratic system.
On SIR, the union Minister said the exercise was intended to remove duplicate, deceased and permanently shifted entries while ensuring that no eligible voter was excluded. He said mechanisms were available to correct errors and that booth-level agents of recognised political parties could participate in the process.
