BJP condemns Congress protest, accuses party of targeting Election Commission

Hyderabad, Sep 28 (UNI) Telangana BJP Chief Official Spokesperson and Media In-charge N V Subhash strongly condemned the Congress protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing the ruling party of targeting an independent constitutional institution.
In a statement, Subhash alleged that the Congress was using the protest to divert public attention from its governance record and described the demand for the CEC’s resignation as politically motivated. He also criticised the Telangana government for its alleged treatment of opposition protesters.
On the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Subhash questioned the Congress’ objections and said the Supreme Court had upheld the Election Commission’s authority to conduct the exercise. The Supreme Court’s May 2026 judgment did uphold the ECI’s power to conduct SIR, while subsequent proceedings have also involved scrutiny of aspects of the revision process.
