BJP welcomes SC verdict upholding Danam Nagender's disqualification

Hyderabad, Sep 24 (UNI) BJP Telangana president N Ramchander Rao on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court's decision dismissing former Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender's plea against his disqualification, terming it a victory for constitutional principles and democracy.
The Supreme Court upheld the Telangana High Court verdict disqualifying Nagender under the anti-defection law after he contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Secunderabad on a Congress ticket while continuing as a BRS MLA. The apex court found no grounds to interfere with the High Court order.
In a statement, Rao said the verdict demonstrated that elected representatives must abide by the Constitution and that defections cannot be legitimised as "Ghar Wapsi". He said the BJP Legislature Party's legal battle had helped protect democratic and constitutional values.
