Telangana Minister Seethakka urges Centre to grant more funds for Women and Child Welfare schemes

Hyderabad, June 30 (UNI) Telangana Women and Child Welfare Minister Dr Dhanasari Anasuya Seethakka today appealed to the Union Government to enhance financial support for welfare schemes in the state.
She made the request during a meeting with Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi at the Shamshabad International Airport.
The Union Minister, who was transiting through Hyderabad en route from Maharashtra to Delhi, held a brief meeting with Minister Seethakka and Women and Child Welfare Secretary Antha Ramachandran.

Seethakka submitted a memorandum detailing key welfare initiatives being implemented in Telangana, including Aarogyalakshmi, Poshan 2.0, and Sankshema Anganwadi. She highlighted that Telangana stands out for extending retirement benefits to Anganwadi workers—a benefit not offered in many other states.

The Minister urged the Centre to increase its contribution to Anganwadi staff salaries. While the state currently pays Rs 10,950 to Anganwadi teachers and Rs 6,450 to helpers, the central share remains at a meagre Rs 2,700 and Rs 1,350 respectively.

She also pointed out that over 11,000 Anganwadi centers in the state are operating from rented buildings and requested central funds for the construction of permanent facilities. Seethakka further stated that under the Arogya Lakshmi scheme, the state provides 200 ml of Vijaya Milk daily to pregnant and lactating mothers and is planning to extend this benefit to children as well, urging the Centre’s support in scaling up the scheme.

Responding positively, Union Minister Annapurna Devi lauded Telangana’s innovative welfare measures and expressed interest in replicating the state's successful models across India.
She announced plans to hold a national conference in Telangana to showcase these best practices to other states and assured that the Centre would consider additional funding support after reviewing the proposals, an official statement said.
