AI era calls for caution, stronger cyber safety for children: Kerala Home Minister

Kochi, Oct 8 (UNI) Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Thursday said the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) made caution and safety increasingly important, particularly in protecting children from emerging cyber threats.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Kerala Police's 'Kid Glove' initiative, organised as a precursor to c0c0n 2026, the country's major cyber security conference, in Kochi.
Chennithala said humanity was passing through a significant phase of evolution and AI had reached a stage where it could think and function in ways resembling human capabilities.
"At a time when AI thinks like humans, caution and safety must be given priority," he said, underlining the significance of innovative cyber safety initiatives such as 'Kid Glove'.
Children should be equipped to identify and confront harmful trends in cyberspace just as they are expected to deal with challenges in society, the Minister said.
He stressed that ensuring children's cyber safety could not be left to the police alone and called for the collective involvement of parents, teachers and society.
The Minister also announced actor Asif Ali as the brand ambassador of 'Cyber Safe Keralam 2026', a cyber safety initiative launched by the Kerala Police.
Thrippunithura MLA Deepak Joy, who presided over the function, said the initiative was aimed at protecting children from the dark corners of the internet. He stressed the need to sensitise children about online risks, including the dangers of establishing friendships with strangers through social media.
Asif Ali, who assumed charge as the brand ambassador of 'Cyber Safe Keralam 2026', said children needed to be extra cautious while using the cyber world. He urged them not to hesitate to seek help from parents, teachers or other trusted persons if they realised that they had fallen into a cyber trap.
State Police Chief and c0c0n 2026 Chairman Ravada Azad Chandrashekhar, Vigilance Director and c0c0n 2026 Co-Chairman Manoj Abraham, ADGP P. Vijayan, Maradu Municipal Councilor Suneela Subi and Cyber Operations SP Ankit Ashokan also addressed the gathering.
