Thrissur, May 6 (UNI) Thrisssur Pooram, the parading of caparisoned elephants, sought after percussion ensembles and colourful fireworks, kicked off on Tuesday morning in its full glory and majesty.
Thekkinkadu Maidan in the heart of Thrissur city witnessed hundreds of people for the
awe-inspiring event, which is labelled as Mother of all Poorams.
The main participants in the 30-hour festival are the deities from Paramekavu
and Thirumvambadi temples. Eight other temples are also participating in the festival.
Majestic elephants, traditional percussion ensembles offer a treat to ears of the Pooram lovers. The Madhathil Varavu features the best Panchavadyam and the Kudamattam in which colourful umbrellas are displayed atop elephants is another highlight.
The participating main temples will indulge in a friendly competition during the festival. The Elanjithara Melam is conducted with over 300 percussionists and is described as the biggest orchestra in
the world.
The ceremonies will conclude with a colourful display of fireworks after midnight.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the safety and security of people particularly in the backdrop of Pahalgam terrorist attack. Over 4,000 police personnel have been deployed and CCTV cameras are installed.
