Telangana Govt revises auto-rickshaw fares after 12 years

Hyderabad, Oct 2 (UNI) The Telangana government has revised auto-rickshaw fares after 12 years, recognising the sector as an important component of the public transport system alongside RTC and Metro services.
The revised fares replace those prescribed under G.O.Ms.No.20, issued by the then undivided Andhra Pradesh government on February 14, 2014.
Under the new structure, the minimum fare for the first 1.6 km is Rs 30, followed by Rs 14 per additional kilometre. The waiting charge has been fixed at Rs 0.75 per minute, while the charge for eligible luggage is Rs 0.50, with a maximum luggage limit of 100 kg. Between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., passengers will be charged 1.5 times the normal fare.
The government said the revision was aimed at balancing the livelihoods of auto drivers and rising operating costs with the interests of passengers, without causing inconvenience to the public.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said auto drivers were key stakeholders in the public transport system and assured that the government was attentive to their livelihood and welfare concerns.
He said the process of establishing a welfare board for auto workers would be initiated and stressed that their welfare would be given priority along with that of RTC employees.
