Incessant rains wreak havoc in coastal Andhra districts

Vijayawada, Sep 24 (UNI) Incessant rains under the influence of a deep depression wreaked havoc in coastal Andhra districts and bridge collapse,uprooting of massive trees, and electric poles reported, while the normal life was thrown out of gear.
The incessant rains occurred in the combined Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, East and West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur districts, throwing normal life out of gear. Educational institutions declared a holiday today. All the rivers, including Vamshadhara, Nagavali, Bahuda, Mahendratanaya, rivulets, canals and nalas were overflowing with floodwaters and road connectivity to more than 100 villages was cut off.
The worst affected is Srikakulam district, as many low-lyingareas were inundated with two to three feet of water. A bridge across the Vamsadhara River left canal collapsed on the K Agraharam-Jadyada highway, resulting in road connectivity to about 25 villages being cut off. As per the preliminary estimation, crops, including in over 15,000submerged in the flood water at Sompet, Palasa, Kaviti, Vajrapukotturu, Polaki,Tekkali, Saravakota and Jalumuru villages, while maize and banana plants were uprooted in Srikakulam district.
