Rs 100 crore loans to 10,000 beneficiaries under ‘Samagra 2026’ in Palakkad

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 2 (UNI) Around Rs 100 crore in loans will be distributed to nearly 10,000 beneficiaries at the second edition of ‘Samagra 2026’, the flagship outreach programme of the Kerala State Backward Classes Development Corporation, in Palakkad on October 3.
The event will also mark the conclusion of the 100-day action programme of the Backward Classes Development Department, with the department achieving 100 per cent progress in all projects taken up under the programme.
A major highlight will be the launch of the distribution of interest-free ‘Priyadarshini Self-Employment Loans’ for women and ‘Jeevandhara Senior Secure Loans’ for senior citizens.
The ‘Samagra’ initiative was conceived to promote the various development and welfare schemes of the corporation and ensure comprehensive development and financial security for backward communities and religious minorities.
Since the present government assumed office, loans amounting to Rs 272 crore have been sanctioned to 18,377 beneficiaries. Women accounted for around 80 per cent of the beneficiaries, highlighting the emphasis on women's economic empowerment and grassroots-level development.
The loan schemes have helped women become financially self-reliant through small-scale enterprises, self-employment initiatives and Kudumbashree-based livelihoods, while also providing impetus to the rural economy.
The interest-free ‘Priyadarshini Self-Employment Loan Scheme’ enables women to launch new self-employment ventures and expand existing enterprises, and is aimed at encouraging more women to become entrepreneurs.
The State Backward Classes Development Corporation will also organise a seven-day exhibition at Palakkad Fort Maidan during the last week of December, providing beneficiaries an opportunity to display and sell their products.
The programme will be held at the Convention Centre at Palakkad Fort. Minister for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes Welfare K A Thulasi will inaugurate the event, while Minister for General Education and Minority Welfare N Shamsudheen will preside.
V K Sreekandan MP will deliver the keynote address and inaugurate the distribution of loans under the new schemes. K Radhakrishnan MP will distribute micro-credit loans, while M P Abdussamad Samadani MP will distribute education loans.
