Hyderabad police rescue four state birds caged during Dasara festivities

Hyderabad, Oct 21 (UNI) Hyderabad City Police rescued four Asian paradise flycatchers, the state bird of Telangana, from illegal confinement at three locations during the Dasara festival, City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said in a post on social media platform X.
Acting on information provided by alert citizens, police conducted raids at locations near Langar House Bapughat, Chatrinaka Sri Chitragupta Swamy Temple and Mangalhat Balajinagar Temple. Two birds were rescued from cages near Langar House Bapughat, while one each was recovered near the Chatrinaka and Mangalhat temples. All four birds were handed over to forest officials for further care.
Sajjanar said strict legal action was being initiated against those responsible in coordination with the Forest Department. He expressed concern that despite prior warnings, some individuals had confined the birds in cages, subjecting them to distress in the name of festival traditions.
Emphasising that compassion for living beings was an essential part of devotion, the Commissioner urged people not to encourage cruelty to wildlife or practices that promote illegal hunting for money.
He appealed to citizens to report incidents of wildlife cruelty to the toll-free numbers 18004255364, 9803338666 or Dial 112, and called for collective efforts to protect wildlife.
