Hope's century powers West Indies to 247/3 against India in fourth T20I

Hyderabad, Oct 14 (UNI) West Indies captain Shai Hope smashed his second century of the series to power the visitors to a formidable 247 for three against India in the fourth T20 International at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here on Wednesday.
Hope remained unbeaten on 102 off 50 balls, striking four fours and nine sixes at a strike rate of 204, as West Indies produced an explosive batting display after India won the toss and elected to bowl.
The century was Hope's second in the ongoing series and fourth on the tour, underlining his outstanding form in India. He brought up the landmark in the final over by hitting Nitish Kumar Reddy for a six, having already cleared the ropes off the same bowler on the previous delivery.
Hope found an equally aggressive partner in Sherfane Rutherford, who finished unbeaten on 49 off 26 balls, with four fours and three sixes. The pair added 91 runs for the fourth wicket to lift West Indies to a daunting total after the dismissal of Rovman Powell in the 13th over.
West Indies made a flying start, collecting 79 runs in the powerplay. Young Jewel Andrew struck 21 off 16 balls, including two fours and a six, before being trapped leg-before by Axar Patel in the fifth over. Andrew unsuccessfully reviewed the decision.
Hope continued to dominate the Indian bowling, reaching his half-century with a six off Mayank Yadav in the 11th over. He accelerated further in the latter half of the innings, using his footwork and powerful strokeplay to target the boundaries.
Shimron Hetmyer provided further impetus, smashing 33 off just 12 deliveries, including four fours and two sixes. His brisk cameo ended when Prince Yadav caught and bowled him in the ninth over, leaving West Indies at 110 for two.
Powell then joined Hope in an aggressive partnership, scoring 24 off 17 balls with two fours and a six. He took on Axar Patel in the 12th over, helping the spinner concede 22 runs, but fell to Arshdeep Singh in the next over. Attempting to hit a full delivery outside off-stump, Powell edged the ball behind to wicketkeeper Sanju Samson.
Rutherford took charge alongside Hope, punishing India's inconsistent bowling with a series of powerful hits. He struck Mayank Yadav for two sixes and a four in the 17th over, while Hope also found the boundary regularly.
India's fielding lapses compounded their difficulties. Naman Dhir dropped a difficult chance at long-off off Rutherford in the 17th over, while Mayank Yadav missed another opportunity in the 19th.
Prince Yadav rushed Rutherford with a short delivery, inducing a top-edge that went towards short fine leg, but Mayank moved to his right and failed to get his fingertips to what appeared to be a straightforward catch.
Rutherford survived and took two runs, with the missed opportunity drawing visible disbelief from India head coach Gautam Gambhir and Abhishek Sharma.
Hope reached his century in the final over, striking Nitish Kumar Reddy for consecutive sixes to finish unbeaten on 102. Rutherford, meanwhile, narrowly missed his half-century, ending on 49 not out.
For India, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav and Axar Patel claimed one wicket each. Mayank Yadav conceded 52 runs in four overs, while Arshdeep gave away 52 runs in his quota.
Axar returned figures of one for 45, and Nitish Kumar Reddy conceded 39 runs in three overs without taking a wicket.
West Indies finished at 247 for three at a run rate of 12.35, setting India a target of 248 to win the fourth match of the five-match series.
