Shaurya fires 67 to seize PGTI qualifying lead, eyes full card

Ahmedabad, Oct 22 (UNI) India's Shaurya Sharma produced a timely five-under 67 to overturn a five-shot deficit and seize a one-stroke lead after the third round of the DP World PGTI Final Qualifying Stage 2026-27 at the Kensville Golf and Country Club here on Thursday.
Starting the day in tied seventh place, the Chandigarh-based 25-year-old delivered the best round of the day to move to four-under 212, putting himself in contention for a full playing card for the 2026-27 season ahead of Friday's decisive final round.
Sharma's composed display left Bangladesh's first-round leader Md Siddikur Rahman and Indian amateur Arin Ahuja sharing second place at three-under 213, ensuring a closely fought battle for the top positions going into the final day.
Sharma, who has been a regular on the DP World PGTI circuit since 2025, built his round around sharp putting and precise wedge play. He sank birdie putts from 25 feet and 15 feet on the third and eighth holes to gain early momentum before setting up three more birdies with accurate wedge shots.
He also showed his touch around the greens by converting a long putt to save par on the 13th and came close to holing his second shot on the 12th.
"The long conversions on the third and eighth gave me early momentum. I backed that up with three outstanding wedge shots to end the day high on confidence. I also saved par by draining a long putt on the 13th. I nearly holed out my second shot on the 12th," Sharma said.
Acknowledging the challenge posed by the course, Sharma said he was pleased to find his form with just one round remaining.
The qualifying tournament also witnessed a milestone for Bhutanese golf, with Nim Dorji Tamang becoming the first player from Bhutan to make the halfway cut at the Final Stage of the DP World PGTI Qualifying School. Tamang was tied 76th after the third round.
At the end of the fourth round, the top 48 finishers will earn full playing cards for the 2026-27 DP World PGTI season, raising the stakes for the final day's competition.
