Haryana trio clinch three Asian Games golds in quick succession for India

Panchkula, Oct 2 (UNI) Haryana's athletes delivered three gold medals for India in quick succession at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan on Friday, with Sujeet Kalkal, Ankush and Parveen Kumari winning titles in wrestling and boxing.
Sujeet Kalkal of Charkhi Dadri won gold in freestyle wrestling, adding a major title to India's campaign at the Games.
Haryana then struck twice in boxing. Hisar's Ankush won the men's 80-kg category, while Rohtak's Parveen Kumari clinched the women's 65-kg title.
The three gold medals coming within a short span marked a strong showing by Haryana athletes in India's campaign at the continental event.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini congratulated the three gold medallists, saying Haryana's sportspersons were continuing to bring laurels to the country at the international level.
“Our players are making a name not only for the country but across the world,” Saini said.
He congratulated the athletes and their families and wished them success in future competitions.
The three victories further underlined Haryana's contribution to India's medal tally, particularly in wrestling and boxing — disciplines in which athletes from the state have traditionally formed a significant part of the national contingent.
