Jharkhand: Athletes win 11 medals on opening day of junior meet

Ranchi, Sep 22 (UNI) Jharkhand athletes won 11 medals, including three gold, three silver and five bronze, on the opening day of the 37th East Zone Junior Athletics Championships in Patna on Tuesday.
The three-day championship is being held from Sep 22 to 24 at the Pataliputra Sports Complex, with teams from 13 states and union Territories, including Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands participating.
Mamta Mary Murmu won gold in the girls' under-18 100 metres, Naina Singh claimed gold in the girls' under-18 80 metres hurdles and Savita Murmu secured gold in the girls' under-20 javelin throw.

The 23-year-old reached the men’s 97kg final before losing 0-4 to Japan’s Yuri Nakazato, ending India’s wait for a Greco-Roman wrestling finalist since the 1962 edition.
