NSFs can now get up to Rs 50 crore to host international events

New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) National Sports Federations (NSFs) will be eligible for financial assistance of up to Rs 50 crore to host international sporting events in India, the Sports Ministry announced on Friday while unveiling the revised operational guidelines for its Scheme of Assistance to NSFs.
Earlier, federations could receive up to Rs 2 crore to organise international events in the country.
The Ministry said the revised guidelines are aimed at supporting India’s long-term sporting ambitions, including its preparations for the 2036 Olympic bid and the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad.
Under the new scheme, the financial assistance for hosting international events will depend on the nature and importance of the competition, as well as the number of participating countries and athletes. Proposals submitted by NSFs will be assessed by a committee headed by the Sports Secretary, the Ministry said in a release.
Assistance of up to Rs 50 Crore for the National Games
The revised scheme also provides for financial assistance of up to Rs 50 crore to organise the National Games. The funds can be used to procure sports equipment, arrange Timing, Scoring and Result (TSR) services, pay technical officials and meet other technical requirements.
Dedicated training centres for elite athletes
The revised scheme proposes the establishment of sport-specific Olympic Training Centres (OTCs) with modern facilities, sports science equipment and specialised expertise to prepare elite Indian athletes for major international competitions, including the Olympics.
At present, athletes train at National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), academies, private facilities and overseas centres. The proposed OTCs aim to reduce dependence on foreign training facilities by providing world-class infrastructure in India.
The support will cover coaches and technical staff, sports science services, specialised equipment and other technical requirements.
Wider support for athletes and federations
The scheme will also fund national coaching camps, training at academies and athlete-related expenses, including boarding, lodging, sports kits, insurance and sports science services.
It will support the appointment of foreign coaches and High Performance Directors, along with specialists such as physiotherapists, sports scientists and doctors.
Assistance will also be available for overseas training, international competitions, and Senior, Junior and Sub-Junior National Championships.
The revised guidelines further provide for grassroots and junior athlete development, as well as administrative and governance-related expenses of National Sports Federations.
