Rain delays toss before Ind-WI T20I decider; match reduced to nine overs a side

Bengaluru, Oct 17 (UNI) The fifth and final T20 International between India and the West Indies will be played over nine overs a side after rain delayed the toss at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Saturday, with the series locked at 2-2.
The toss is scheduled for 2100 hours local time, with the match set to begin at 2115 hours. The powerplay in the curtailed contest will last 2.4 overs.
Persistent drizzle and dark clouds over the stadium had threatened to wash out the series decider, leaving players and spectators anxiously waiting for the weather to clear.
The rain delay had earlier pushed the toss beyond its scheduled time, raising concerns over the possibility of a shortened game.
There was, however, a welcome change in the atmosphere as Indian players began emerging from the dressing room to warm up. Raghu came out carrying the kit bag, followed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, whose appearance prompted a loud cheer from the Chinnaswamy spectators.
The rest of India players gradually joined them for their warmups. Abhishek Sharma was seen behind the wicket, visualising his batting before walking down the pitch alongside West Indies head coach Darren Sammy.
The developments offered renewed hope that the series would produce a result despite the weather interruptions.
Earlier, cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle had pointed to the Chinnaswamy Stadium's efficient drainage system as a reason for optimism, noting that the venue could recover quickly once the rain stopped.
With both teams having won two matches each, the shortened decider now leaves little room for error. Every delivery will carry added significance as India and the West Indies seek to settle the series in a high-pressure, nine-over contest.
