Rabada becomes fastest to 350 Test wickets

Cape Town, Oct 31 (UNI) South African pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada rewrote the Test bowling record books on Saturday, becoming the fastest bowler in history to claim 350 Test wickets by balls bowled, before producing a devastating opening burst that pushed Australia to the brink of defeat in the third and deciding Test at Newlands.
Rabada reached the landmark in his 75th Test when he dismissed Travis Head for 14 during Australia's second innings, taking just 13,808 deliveries to complete the milestone and surpassing former South African great Dale Steyn's previous record of 14,719 balls.
Pakistan's Waqar Younis occupies third place on the list, having taken 14,905 deliveries to reach 350 wickets.
The milestone was the culmination of another commanding display from Rabada, who struck twice in the opening over of Australia's second innings, removing Matt Renshaw and Marnus Labuschagne before sending Head back to the pavilion to complete his landmark.
His three-wicket burst left Australia reeling at 60 for seven, handing South Africa a decisive advantage and putting the hosts firmly on course for a series-clinching victory.
Rabada's achievement also took his international wicket tally to 600, making him only the fifth South African bowler to reach the landmark across formats, according to reports.
The 31-year-old's latest feat further strengthens his position among the leading fast bowlers of his generation. While the number of matches required to reach 350 wickets places him second among South African bowlers, his efficiency by deliveries bowled makes him the fastest in Test history to the milestone.
His achievement drew widespread appreciation across the cricketing world, with fans and commentators praising his consistency, aggression and ability to deliver decisive spells in high-pressure situations. He was also hailed as the 'Rolls-Royce of bowling' for his exceptional quality and control.
For South Africa, Rabada's record came at a crucial moment in the series, with his ability to dismantle Australia's top order turning an individual milestone into a potentially match-defining contribution.
The Newlands performance once again underlined Rabada's importance to the Proteas attack, combining historic statistical excellence with the ability to change the course of a Test match in a matter of deliveries.
