Maha: Security guard killed, another hurt as gate collapses at Nagpur Aircraft facility

Nagpur, Oct 4 (UNI) A security guard lost his life and another was injured after a massive iron gate gave way at an aircraft maintenance facility near Nagpur airport in Maharashtra, police said today.
According to officials the mishap took place on Saturday morning at Indemar Aviation’s aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) unit situated along the runway of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in the Mihan Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
Police said an aircraft that had developed a technical snag was being moved into the facility for repairs when the iron gate was opened. During the process, a section of the gate suddenly collapsed.
At the time, six security personnel were on duty in the vicinity. Two guards standing near the gate were trapped beneath the fallen structure, officials said.
Following an alert, personnel from Sonegaon police station rushed to the site.
With the assistance of workers present there, the collapsed gate was removed and the injured guards were shifted to AIIMS Nagpur for medical treatment.
One of them, Kailas Pundalikrao Chaphekar (46), a resident of Deoli in Hingna tehsil, was declared brought dead by doctors.
The second guard, Abhishek Sukhdev Sangode (25) of Kalamna, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment, officials said.
Police have registered an accidental death case and initiated further inquiry into the incident.
