Maha: Man dies after falling into uncovered drainage pit in Pune’s Yerawada, safety concerns raised

Pune, Oct 18 (UNI) A man died after falling into a pit dug for drainage work in the fish market area of Maharashtra's Yerawada district, raising serious concerns over public safety and the lack of adequate precautions at civic construction sites.
The deceased, identified as Pradeep Pardeshi, reportedly fell into the pit after being hit by a rickshaw, sustaining serious injuries. He was later rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed during the treatment.
According to local residents, the pit excavated for the drainage work was approximately 10 to 15 feet deep. They alleged that adequate safety measures had not been put in place around the excavation site to prevent accidents. Residents also claimed that similar accidents had occurred in the area in the past.
Following the incident, the deceased's relatives approached the Laxminagar police station, seeking accountability for the tragedy. Questions have been raised over who was responsible for the accident and why adequate safeguards had not been provided to protect pedestrians and other road users.
Police are investigating the incident.
