OBC welfare push: Maha clears Re 1 land allocation for community deveopment projects, ₹300 Cr for Mahajyoti

Mumbai, Sep 29 (UNI) In an expansion of grassroots welfare infrastructure, the Maharashtra Cabinet Sub-Committee on OBC Welfare has directed administrative bodies to draft a policy granting government land for community development and student facilities at a nominal token rate of just one rupee.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at Mantralaya on Tuesday, Committee Chairman and Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule issued stern warnings against bureaucratic foot-dragging, asserting that backward class communities must receive equitable funding and systemic backing on par with other social groups.
Revenue and allied departments have been instructed to table immediate proposals allocating government land for holistic Other Backward Classes (OBC) development and student facilities for a token cost of one rupee.
The panel greenlit financial backing, directing that ₹300 crore be earmarked specifically for the 'Mahajyoti' research and training institute, alongside hostel schemes and Vanarti initiatives.
Emphasizing employment security, Forest Minister Ganesh Naik strongly demanded the immediate clearance of all long-pending OBC job backlogs while Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal pushed for extending facilities modeled after the Annasaheb Patil Economic Backward Development Corporation to the OBC corporation, alongside a ₹200 crore allocation to launch 'Krantijyoti Mahatma Phule Samata Bhavans' on the lines of 'BARTI'.
Marking the upcoming Tricentenary Year of Mahatma Phule, the committee proposed state-wide stagings of his play Tritiya Ratna, a biopic on his life, the publication of his comprehensive literary works, and special marathon events in Nagpur.
"No administrative delays will be tolerated when it comes to the welfare and development of the OBC community," Minister Bawankule warned, adding that overseas scholarship files and compensation proposals for families of deceased OBC farmers must be fast-tracked for immediate approval.
