Maha: Police notice to Cockroach Janta Party workers ahead of Delhi protest on Oct 10 ,raises questions

Chandrapur/ Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Oct 6 (UNI) The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) today criticised notices issued by Ballarpur police to some of its workers ahead of a proposed protest in New Delhi, alleging that the move was aimed at discouraging participation in the agitation.
According to party leaders, several volunteers planning to attend the October 10 demonstration at Jantar Mantar were served notices seeking information about the purpose of their participation, the objectives of the protest and the source of financial support for their travel.
The notices have triggered a debate over the extent of preventive policing and the nature of questions being posed to citizens before they join a public protest.
Speaking at a press conference in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, CJP founder Abhijit Dipke alleged that police were pressuring party workers not to take part in the Delhi agitation.
He objected to inquiries regarding travel expenses and funding, asking why authorities were seeking such details from individuals intending to participate in a peaceful demonstration.
Dipke claimed that a number of party activists had received notices advising them against involvement in any unlawful activities while also seeking information about their proposed visit to the national capital.
The notices, issued under Section 168 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), reportedly direct recipients to refrain from engaging in violence, delivering provocative speeches or sharing inflammatory material on social media.
They further warn that legal or preventive action could be initiated in the event of any breach of law and order.
Questioning the rationale behind the exercise, Dipke said the police appeared to be presuming that the protest could turn violent.
He also asked why local authorities were concerned about citizens travelling to Delhi to participate in a democratic agitation.
The CJP has called for a nationwide protest at Jantar Mantar beginning October 10, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the controversy linked to voter-list revisions and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
Responding to the allegations, Chandrapur Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopany said the notices were part of standard preventive measures undertaken before major protests.
He said the objective was to maintain peace and caution participants against any actions that could disturb public order, adding that the exercise was not directed against any specific organisation or group.
