Arabic Teacher And Family Questioned In Ratnagiri As Maharashtra ATS Examines Suspected Militant Connections

Mumbai, Oct 13 (UNI) The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has launched searches at five locations across the state as part of an investigation into an international WhatsApp group whose members reportedly include individuals from Pakistan and Gulf countries.
As part of the investigation, ATS officials questioned an Arabic teacher, her husband and their daughter at Rajapur in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri district on Monday. The three were questioned for several hours regarding the WhatsApp group and related matters.
Investigators also seized their mobile phones for forensic examination to obtain information relevant to the inquiry. The teacher and her family members were subsequently released after questioning.
Sources said investigators are examining the group's communications, membership and possible connections with the Pakistan-based militant organisation Hizbul Mujahideen, although no such link has been established so far.
According to sources, the ATS is questioning individuals believed to have information about the group's activities, its members and their contacts. The WhatsApp group reportedly includes participants from several countries, with some members said to be associated with religious organisations. Religious subjects were also reportedly discussed among the participants. However, investigators have not established any association between the group and the militant organisation.
The searches and questioning form part of the agency's continuing efforts to examine the group's activities and identify possible contacts among its members.
The ATS is also analysing communications and other information gathered during the investigation. Further details about the group's operations and any suspected connections are expected to emerge as the inquiry progresses.
