Navi Mumbai blast: 2 injured after LPG cylinder explodes

Navi Mumbai, Sep 15 (UNI)Two persons were injured after an LPG cylinder reportedly exploded inside a restaurant in Sanpada area of neghbouring Navi Mumbai city on Tuesday morning, officials said.
The incident took place at around 1030 hrs at Sagar Family Restaurant in Pratiksha Building, Sector-1, Sanpada, triggering panic in the locality.
The explosion was powerful enough to damage the surrounding area. Shutters of at least six nearby shops were reportedly blown off, while glass panes of a hospital situated opposite the restaurant were shattered. Several vehicles parked near the site were also damaged in the impact.
Two workers present inside the restaurant sustained injuries in the blast and were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, teams of the Navi Mumbai fire brigade and police rushed to the spot and launched rescue and emergency operations. The situation was brought under control, and further spread of fire was prevented.
Police officials said a preliminary assessment points to an LPG cylinder explosion, though the exact cause of the blast is yet to be established. An investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
