Kolhapur: 'Gokul' election will be held, says Satej Patil

Kolhapur, Oct 6 (UNI) Congress group leader in the Maharashtra Legislative Council Satej Patil, reacting to reports that the election of the Kolhapur District Cooperative Milk Producers' Union, popularly known as 'Gokul', would be held unopposed, has stated that the election would be held.
Talking to reporters, Patil said, "There are only rumours that Gokul's election will be held unopposed. However, I firmly believe that the election will be held in any case."
The political atmosphere in Kolhapur has heated up considerably over the election of the district cooperative milk producers' union. Against the backdrop of severe drought in the state, strong rumours have been circulating in political circles that the Gokul election could be held unopposed.
However, as soon as the reports came to his notice, Patil clarified that there was no basis for such speculation and maintained that the election would be held.
The Kolhapur District Cooperative Milk Producers' Union, widely known by its popular brand name Gokul, is heading into a highly anticipated and politically charged election for its 25-member board of directors.
As an economic powerhouse in the region with an annual turnover exceeding ₹4,000 crore, control over the dairy union carries immense political weight in Maharashtra.
The Satej Patil group is pitted against a formidable panel from the ruling Mahayuti alliance, spearheaded by prominent local leaders including Maharashtra ministers Hasan Mushrif, Chandrakant Patil, Prakash Abitkar, and BJP MP Dhananjay Mahadik.
On Voting day, October 18, a total of 5,331 eligible voters representing primary village-level milk cooperative societies will cast their votes. The results will be declared on October 19.
