Seven arrested after 1month old baby sold through multiple deals and recovered from Hyd

Mumbai, Sept 30 (UNI) A one month old baby allegedly changed hands through a series of transactions across Maharashtra and Telangana after his parents first sold him for Rs 1.20 lakh, prompting police to investigate a possible interstate infant trafficking network.
Seven people, including the baby's parents, have been arrested and the infant has been recovered from Hyderabad.
The case surfaced in the Mukundwadi area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
According to police, the parents initially handed over their month old child to a middlewoman identified as Seema Reshwal for Rs 1.20 lakh. Investigators alleged that the couple subsequently spent the money on two expensive mobile phones and a gold chain. Police are in the process of seizing these items as part of the investigation.
The inquiry revealed that the child was allegedly sold several more times, with the amount increasing after the initial transaction. Police said Reshwal subsequently sold the infant to Sangeeta Awhad, a resident of Padegaon, for Rs 2.70 lakh.
Investigators said Awhad then took the baby to Nanded, where the child was handed over to Suresh Guntuka for Rs 3.50 lakh. Police have described Guntuka as a bogus doctor.
The alleged chain continued when Guntuka handed over the infant to his relative Uma Khatkam, a resident of Hyderabad, for the same amount of Rs 3.50 lakh. Police eventually traced the child to Hyderabad and recovered him during the investigation.
Seven people have been arrested in connection with the case, including the baby's parents and others allegedly involved in the successive transactions.
Police are questioning the accused to reconstruct the entire chain through which the infant changed hands and to determine the individual role of each person.
Investigators are also examining whether those arrested have links with any other cases involving the illegal sale or transfer of infants.
Police are probing whether the transactions were part of a wider interstate infant trafficking network and whether other people were involved.
