DRI nabs Nigerian national with 5 cr drugs concealed in food packages

Mumbai, June 20 (UNI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized narcotics valued at Rs 5 crore and arrested two suspects, including a Nigerian national, in a meticulously coordinated operation across Delhi and Mumbai. DRI sources said on Friday.
Acting on intelligence inputs, DRI operatives tracked a suspect traveling by bus from Delhi to Mumbai on Thursday night. The woman was placed under surveillance for approximately 50 kilometers before being apprehended upon arrival in Mumbai.
During inspection of her luggage, officers discovered crystalline substances and tablets ingeniously concealed within packets of oats and juice tetra packs. Field testing confirmed the seizure comprised 2.56 kilograms of methamphetamine and 584 grams of MDMA-based ecstasy tablets.
Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of a second individual – the intended recipient of the narcotics consignment. Both accused now face charges under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
"The contraband carries an estimated black-market value of 5 crore internationally," confirmed DRI sources. Authorities are continuing the investigation to dismantle broader trafficking networks linked to the seizure.
