Mumbai, Oct 24 (UNI) The Crime Branch Unit-4 of the Mira-Bhayandar Vasai-Virar (MBVV) Police in Maharashtra has busted an inter-state drug manufacturing network with the detection of illegal facilities in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana, leading to the arrest of 19 accused so far, police said on Saturday.
The latest operation led to the detection of an illegal facility at Pashamylaram in Patancheru, Telangana’s Sangareddy district, where a chemical allegedly used in the manufacture of MD drugs was being prepared.
Acting on information obtained during the interrogation of arrested accused, a Crime Branch team raided the premises on October 21 and detained Ramesh Babu Sake, a resident of Telangana’s Medchal-Malkajgiri district.
Police seized 88.699 kg of 2-Bromo-4-Methylpropiophenone, a chemical used in drug manufacturing, valued at approximately Rs 27.06 lakh, along with other raw materials and laboratory equipment. The operation was carried out with the assistance of the Patancheru Police Station team under the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate.
The investigation originated from a case registered on June 24, 2026, after police arrested Avinash alias Sonu Loknath Akbar (22) and Ravikant Omprakash Ram (23), both residents of Nalasopara East, near Priya Washing Centre at Baba Parking Complex on Manvel Pada Road in Pragati Nagar.Around 112 grams of MD drugs, valued at approximately Rs 3.36 lakh, were recovered from them.
A case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Tulinj Police Station.
Considering the seriousness of the case, the investigation was subsequently transferred to Crime Branch Unit-4.
Further investigation led the police to an illegal MD manufacturing facility in Sandhan village of Abdasa taluka in Gujarat’s Kutch district, which was subsequently shut down.
The team later traced another illegal manufacturing unit operating on agricultural land at Kosida Kala in the Manda area of Meja tehsil in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj district.Police said the seizures made during the investigation included approximately 62.871 kg of MD drugs, around 260 litres of chemicals used in drug manufacturing, cash and a large quantity of laboratory equipment and other materials.
The 19 accused arrested so far are from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana. According to police, the alleged network involved several levels of operation, including the preparation of precursor chemicals, procurement and supply of raw materials, transportation of drugs and handling of financial transactions.Investigators are now examining the supply chain and distribution network to identify other suspects and establish the links between the facilities operating in different states.Further investigation is underway, police added.
