Sahil Wakode’s Parents Seek Police Protection, Cite Safety Concerns

Mumbai, Sep 30 (UNI) The parents of IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode, who reportedly died by suicide, have approached the Mumbai Police seeking protection, citing concerns over their safety, sources said.
In a letter addressed to Mumbai Police Commissioner requesting security Sahil’s father, Ravindra Wakode, requested security for himself and his wife.
He expressed apprehension about their safety and sought police protection for both of them.
The security request comes amid the controversy surrounding the death of Sahil, a student of IIT Bombay’s Energy Science and Engineering programme who was found using an android phone during a mid-semester exam by an invigilator.
Sahil was found dead at the institute’s campus earlier this month. His family subsequently raised allegations of caste harassment and claimed that he had faced difficulties in the period preceding his death.
The family’s allegations have led to a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
The matter is also being examined in the context of the allegations raised by his parents.
Police have been conducting an inquiry into the case and gathering information from the family and other persons concerned. The parents’ request for protection has now added another dimension to the case, with the family expressing concern over their personal safety while the investigation is underway.
