Cong MLA flags BLO absence during SIR hearings, seeks extension

Mumbai, Sep 16 (UNI) Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislative Party in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Amin Patel has urged Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer S Chockalingam to extend the deadlines for disposal of cases identified during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
In a letter dated September 15, Patel reiterated his earlier request for extending the deadline for ASDD (Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate) cases till October 31, 2026, and for Discrepancy and No Mapping cases till November 30, 2026.
Patel said voters whose names figure in the ASDD list were facing difficulties in submitting Form 6 and supporting documents at designated hearing locations.
He said the Election authorities had provided the names and contact details of the concerned Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and assured that they would be available at the designated locations from August 31 to receive the forms.
"However, till date, no BLOs are available at designated hearing locations, due to which voters are unable to submit Form No. 6 and supporting documents. In several cases, the concerned BLOs are either not answering phone calls or their mobile phones are switched off," Patel said.
He also pointed out that Ganeshotsav celebrations would continue till September 25 and many BLOs were engaged in festival-related activities.
Patel urged the Chief Electoral Officer to issue necessary directions to ensure the availability of BLOs at designated hearing locations, enabling voters to submit Form 6 and the required supporting documents without difficulty. UNI AAA SAS
