MPSC students’ protest: Rohit Pawar refuses to back down despite HC appeal

Pune, Oct 7 ( UNI) NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) MLA Rohit Pawar on Tuesday refused to withdraw his support for the ongoing MPSC students’ agitation, despite the Bombay High Court urging the protesters to call off the stir and resume their studies.
During the hearing of a PIL related to the agitation, the court said the students’ demands should be considered and an appropriate decision taken, while advising them to return home.
The court also advised the protesters to call off the agitation and concentrate on their studies.
Pawar, however, said the agitation would continue until the government took a decision on the students’ demands. He demanded action over alleged irregularities related to Mahajyoti and called for the removal of Maharashtra minister Atul Save and MPSC chairman Vivek Bhimanwar.
Pawar said the government must pass a Cabinet resolution and forward it to the Governor to remove the MPSC chairman.
“Students are demanding that Atul Save should be removed. That decision is in the hands of the government, Pawar said.
He also said the protesters, who had initially been granted permission to demonstrate, would submit a fresh request to continue the agitation at the current location.
Pawar also issued a warning to the police against taking action against the protesting students.
"Let them try to touch even a hair of one of our students if they have the courage," Pawar said, asserting that although the protesters came from poor families, they were self-respecting and determined.
He said he would continue to support the students as long as they remained at the protest site and maintained that the agitation would end once the government took a decision on their demands.
Pawar further said the court had fixed November 25 as the next date of hearing. He claimed that despite alleged government pressure, the court’s observations had indirectly strengthened the students’ position.
