Thackeray cousins reunite as MNS, Sena (UBT) join hands against ECI’s SIR exercise

Mumbai, Sep 26 (UNI) In a significant development in Maharashtra politics, estranged cousins Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray have joined hands to oppose the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, announcing a joint public mobilisation in Mumbai on October 4.
The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief and Shiv Sena (UBT) president have buried their political differences and signed a joint appeal calling on citizens and opposition parties to participate in the ‘Janmorcha’, marking a public rapprochement between the two leaders after years of political rivalry.
The proposed agitation comes amid opposition parties’ criticism of the SIR exercise and concerns over the deletion of large numbers of names from draft electoral rolls. According to data reported from the Chief Electoral Offices of various states, more than 13 crore names had been left out of draft rolls across 30 states and union Territories by early September, though the exercise includes names excluded for reasons such as voters being absent, shifted, deceased or having duplicate entries.

Aadhaar mandatory for 63 types of property document registrations in Maharashtra from October 1
