Temperatures soar in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and West Rajasthan

Pune, Apr 30 (UNI) Day temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at many places over Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over west Rajasthan, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.

Day temperatures were also appreciably above normal in isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Saurashtra and Kutch and above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over Marathwada and at a few pockets over west Madhya Pradesh and Lakshadweep, the IMD bulletin said.

Isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal too experienced above normal temperatures, the bulletin said.



The temperatures were markedly below normal (-5.1 or below) at a few places over Bihar and Meghalaya, at isolated pockets over east Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Sikkim and Assam and appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) at a few places over Delhi and Jharkhand.

The appreciably below normal temperatures were also recorded at isolated areas over west Uttar Pradesh and Odisha, while the mercury remained below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at a few places over Haryana and at isolated places over Chhattisgarh, Andaman and Nicobar Island, the IMD said.

The rest of the country experienced normal temperatures.



On Tuesday, the country's highest maximum temperature of 46.3°C was reported at Jaisalmer (west Rajasthan).

Hailstorms occurred at isolated places over east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand.



Heat wave conditions prevailed in isolated pockets of Jammu division and southwest Rajasthan.



Rain or thundershowers have occurred at many places in Odisha and Andaman and Nicobar Islands; at a few places in Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Kerala; at isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal and Sikkim, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, east Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, coastal Karnataka and interior Karnataka.



Mainly dry weather has prevailed in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, west Rajasthan, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Rayalaseema and Lakshadweep, the IMD said.
