Pakistan confirms deployment of military personnel to Saudi Arabia amid repeated Houthi attacks

Islamabad, Oct 8 (UNI) Pakistan military spokesperson Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has confirmed that the Islamic Republic has deployed its military personnel to Saudi Arabia under the recently signed Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, with Chaudhry saying Pakistani forces are operating in the Kingdom across “multiple capabilities and domains”.
“I can confirm that we, the forces of Pakistan, are already there [in the Kingdom]. That I can assure you,” Chaudhry said in an interview with CNN.
The confirmation came days after Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye agreed to provide designated forces and military capabilities under the trilateral pact at a meeting of the Strategic-Political and Defence Committee of the Makkah Alliance for Defence in Riyadh.
The meeting was held amid repeated attacks by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis on Saudi Arabia in recent weeks, including drone and missile strikes targeting civilian and economic infrastructure. Officials from the three countries reaffirmed their rejection of any attack or threat to Saudi Arabia’s security and territorial integrity at the October 5 meeting.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in the Saudi holy city on August 7, 2026. The pact commits the three countries to treat an armed attack on one member as an attack on all.
Chaudhry said Pakistani troops had already been serving in Saudi Arabia for decades in various roles.
“Yeah, Pakistani troops have been there for decades, in multiple capabilities. They have been there for decades in Saudi Arabia,” he said when asked whether Pakistani personnel were deployed under the new alliance.
Pakistan has long provided military support to Saudi Arabia, including training and advisory deployments, while Riyadh has provided financial assistance to Islamabad during periods of economic pressure.
The two countries also signed a separate bilateral defence agreement in September last year. Islamabad subsequently deployed 8,000 troops, a squadron of fighter jets and an air defence system to Saudi Arabia under the agreement.
Chaudhry said the trilateral alliance had not “come out of a vacuum”, pointing to longstanding diplomatic, political, military and people-to-people ties between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
“So, I can share with you that the Pakistani forces, in multiple capabilities and domains, are already there [in the Kingdom],” he added.
