Trump to present Elon Musk and other tech giants US’ highest scientific award

Washington, Oct 8 (UNI) US President Donald Trump is set to present the nation’s highest honours for scientific and technological achievement to Elon Musk and other leading American innovators at the White House on Thursday, marking Trump’s first time presenting the award.
“The Trump administration is grateful for the contributions of these incredible leaders in science and technology. These recipients are helping ensure America keeps leading the world in innovation,” White House spokesperson Liz Huston told Fox News Digital.
The honourees will be recognised at the White House’s ‘Science: A New Golden Age Summit’, which will bring together scientists and some of the US’ top tech giants to discuss how superintelligence and private-sector investment can accelerate scientific breakthroughs and strengthen US leadership in science and technology.
Trump will award the National Medal of Science to Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and AMD CEO Lisa Su. Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will receive the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.
Musk’s award marks his latest return to Trump’s orbit after their relationship drastically deteriorated last year following Musk’s departure from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Musk subsequently criticised Trump’s tax-and-spending bill as a “disgusting abomination”, triggering a public feud in which Trump threatened to review the government contracts held by Musk’s companies.
The two have since repaired their relationship, with Musk appearing alongside Trump at a recent technology leaders’ lunch and during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit.
Musk has also returned to an advisory role in the administration, co-leading the Pentagon’s Project Meridian, which examines the future of warfare and the technologies the US military may need to maintain its technological advantage.
Trump also has a family connection to the National Medal of Science.
His uncle, John G Trump, was posthumously awarded the honour by President Ronald Reagan for pioneering work involving ionising radiation and its applications in medicine, industry and atomic physics.
