Putin tells Trump Ukraine has undermined prospect of immediate peace talks, Kremlin says

Moscow, Oct 10 (UNI) Russian President Vladimir Putin told US President Donald Trump that Ukraine had undermined the prospect of an immediate resumption of trilateral peace talks by attempting to disrupt Russia's parliamentary elections, Russian state news agency TASS reported on Saturday, citing a senior Russian official.
Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said Trump has listened to Putin's assessment and would pass Moscow's message to the Ukrainian delegation, which is in Miami for talks with US officials.
“By attempting to disrupt our elections — launching a massive drone strike on Moscow, other cities, polling stations, and specific individuals involved in organizing the vote on the main election day — the Kyiv regime has essentially scuttled the possibility of an immediate resumption of the negotiation process,” Ushakov said.
“Now, as the president said, we will consider when these negotiations might be resumed,” he added.
Putin also told Trump that Moscow's war aims remained unchanged, while Russian forces held the initiative on the battlefield and continued to advance, Ushakov said.
“Putin has made it clear that our position regarding the goals and objectives of the special military operation remains unchanged, as does our readiness for a political-diplomatic settlement aimed at securely achieving a long-term, sustainable peace,” Ushakov said, referring to the Kremlin's term for the war in Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Putin has received US proposals aimed at de-escalating the war and had considered them “with understanding”. Discussions on Ukraine accounted for most of the leaders' 90-minute phone call, he added.
Putin also told Trump that diplomatic efforts to resolve the US-Iran conflict should continue, urging Washington to reach an agreement with Tehran, Ushakov said.
“Putin particularly emphasized that the potential for diplomacy regarding Iran is far from exhausted: it is both possible and necessary to reach agreements with Tehran,” he said.
Russia's proposal to take highly enriched Iranian uranium to its territory as a possible way to break the deadlock remained on the table, Ushakov said, adding that Trump had welcomed Moscow's involvement.
Peskov said Putin has conveyed Iran's views on a possible resolution to the conflict to Trump in coordination with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Putin had met Pezeshkian twice on the sidelines of a Commonwealth of Independent States leaders' summit in Turkmenistan and informed him of the planned call with Trump, Peskov said.
“Subsequently, in coordination with the Iranian president, Putin conveyed the Iranian side's vision regarding a possible resolution to the conflict to Trump,” he added.
Trump described Friday's conversation with Putin as a “highly successful discussion”.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said Russia had agreed to “immediately supply” more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel fuel to the United States and global markets.
He said a further 500,000 tonnes would be supplied in November, followed by one million tonnes and an additional three million tonnes “within a short period”, depending on the condition of Russian diesel refineries.
Putin said increased Russian diesel supplies to the United States and global markets would benefit the world economy. The two leaders also discussed energy markets, prospects for ending the war in Ukraine, the conflict involving Iran and bilateral relations, he said.
